Recycling Service for EPR Implementation
Nirvana Recycling offers specialized services to Producers to comply their obligation towards the Producer's electronic waste collection as laid down under the Extended Producers Responsibility (EPR) guidelines defined in the E-waste Management & Handling Rules, 2016.
Even today, majority of the e-waste generated in India end up in the informal sector. And, the target set for Producer's under the EPR Rules cannot be achieved without channelizing the e-Waste from the un-organized sector.
Nirvana Recycling under its EPR helpline for its Producer Clients, constantly taps the informal sector to bridge the gap between the in-formal recycling to formal recycling.
Besides being an e-Waste Recycler, Nirvana Recycling also registered as a PRO with the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB)
What is EPR?
Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) means responsibility of any producer of electrical or electronic equipment, for channelization of e-waste to ensure environmentally sound management of such waste. Extended Producer Responsibility may comprise of implementing take back system or setting up of collection centres or both and having agreed arrangements with authorised dismantler or recycler either individually or collectively through a Producer Responsibility Organisation recognised by producer or producers.
Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) means the responsibility and obligation of each Producer of electrical or electronic equipments to ensure that e-waste is recycled in an environmentally sound manner. This is essentially documented and explained in the EPR Plan of each Producer.
What is an EPR Plan?
The EPR Plan for each Producer is an implementation plan that they need to document and adhere to. Such a Plan covers the overall scheme and arrangement that the Producer would implement to fullfil its obligation under the Extended Producer Responsibility.
Under the EPR Plan, the Producer estimates that quantity of e-Waste generated from their end-of-life / end-of-support products and gives out the details of how the Producer would implement the collection and channelization of the e-waste to authorised e-waste dismantlers / recyclers.
The EPR Plan also need to explain the estimated budget which the Producer has set aside for this Green initiative and how the budget would be consumed.
What is the role of a PRO?
A Producer Responsibility Organisation is an organisation that would help a Producer to meet their EPR targets.
To achieve this, the PRO ties up with various e-waste recyclers and dismantlers throughout the country.
When a PRO ties-up with a Producer to help the Producer achieve their EPR obligation, the PRO also need to conduct awareness campaigns for the Producer.
Creating an extended collection mechanism for the Producer is also one part that the PRO has to undertake.
